_ Every year Time Square hosts one of the biggest pop culture celebrations, New Years Eve. The City is consumed in hype for the extravagant show of celebrities, the countdown, and the ball drop. Many of us watch from our TV sets in awe, and some even venture out to New York City to join in the excitement, but some find their celebration of choice in other cities.

In Philadelphia, PA, crowds gather to gawk at the "nothing short of spectacular" fireworks shows, one at 6 PM and one at midnight, for the countdown. The Blue Cross River Rink is the top viewing spot of the shows and have open rink skating an hour before and after each show. Quite the view from the rink, the fireworks are set off on the river in a fantastic flare of colors and lights.

Downtown Boston, MA, showcases over 1,000 artists in 200 performances at 35 indoor and outdoor venues. The First Night Festival of the Arts, a massive celebration of the new year, is the oldest and largest of its kind in the nation.

If you are looking for a New Years Eve dressed up in your tux, the Back Bay Gala, also in Boston, is a black tie formal event that will have you feeling like you are at the most important event of the year. Hosted at the Seaport Boston Hotel in the Seaport World Trade Center from 7:30 to 2:00 AM, this New Years extravaganza has even been said to top the NYC countdown two times over.

So if you are on the hunt for excitement this New Years Eve, try something other than NYC. You might just be in for a pleasant surprise!
